Gumagawa Ng Assignments

Luz Almeda, “During school days importante talaga yang (assignments) except that it should be regulated; yung assignment na hindi naman malaki, dapat yung kung ano yung magawa ng bata in less than five minutes in ten minutes, iyun lang. Hindi yung the whole night malaki yung babasahin niya , one novel read overnight — that’s too much.”

Dagdag pa ni Director Almeda, “So sa Friday, Saturday, Sunday wala nang assignment para yung bata maka-devote his or her time to family activities. So there’s more bonding, more enjoyable activities and sharing among family members.”

(JOAN NANO / UNTV News)

Several companies open to accepting K-12 graduates

FILE PHOTO: K-12 students

MANILA, Philippines —The first batch of grade 12 students will graduate this year.

In line with this, the Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) said that several companies are ready to accept K-12 graduates.

The first batch of students who underwent K-12 program will graduate this year.

Mac Paul Adrian Dagami of the Kapitolyo Senior High school in Pasig City is among the 1.25 million grade 12 students who will finish senior high.

He said that he will no longer go to college since he needs to find work immediately.

Under the K-12 program of the Department of Education (DepEd), students like Mac Paul who finished grade 12 can apply for work.

However, Mac Paul still worries that he could not find a job since he has many college graduate competitors.

“Kinakabahan pa rin naman po kasi college level na po yun,” said the senior high school student.

( I am a bit worried because there are college graduates.)

But the Philippine Business for Education said that several companies are open to accepting K-12 graduates like Mac Paul.

PBed Executive Director Lovelaine Basillote noted that there will be no discrimination between K-12 and college graduates.

Based on the group’s research, 93 percent of skills needed in the service sector are being taught to K-12 students.

“After going through the K-12 system, at naachieve nila yung competency targets, kaya nilang gawin yung trabaho na available sa mga companies,” said the executive director.

(After going through the K-12 system and they achieve the competency targets, they can do the work available in companies.)

Fifty companies in Metro Manila are set to hold a job fair exclusively for K-12 graduates.

These companies are in the service industry such as business process outsourcing (BPO), human resource management, and hospitality tourism.

Meanwhile, the DepEd is confident that the curriculum of K-12 is sufficient to prepare its graduates for work.

“In terms of their competencies, they have been trained to be ready for work or higher education,” said DepEd Assistant Secretary Atty. Nepo Malaluan. — UNTV News & Rescue

Militant students to hold mass walkout from classes to protest against Duterte admin

MANILA, Philippines — Militant students will once again conduct a mass walkout on Friday, February 23.

They are going against charter change, martial law in Mindanao, alleged fake free education, jeepney phaseout and the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.

The group said they are not afraid to be kicked out of their universities because of their mass walkout.

“Kung sinasabi mong iki-kick out mo kami, ang sagot namin sa iyo ay iki-kick out ka namin diyan sa iyong posisyon,” said Almira Abril, chairperson of the group Stand Up.

(If you’re saying you are going to kick us out, we say, we will kick you out from office. )

From Friday morning to Monday, the universities in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will unite.

Meanwhile, according to Commissioner Ronald Adamat of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), it is up to the admin of the universities if they will sanction the students who will participate in the mass walkout.

He also advised the students not to participate in the protest.

“Talagang may violation yan (there really is a violation) because they do their walkout during their classes. They are supposed to be guided by the charter of their school. Dapat mag-aral na lang sila kasi wala namang patutunguhan yan (They should just focus on studying because [joining protests] will lead to nowhere),” said the commissioner.

The group estimates that thousands of students will join the mass walkout protest on Friday. — Rajel Adora | UNTV News & Rescue

SC gives DOH, DepEd, DILG 10 days to answer petition over support to children injected with Dengvaxia

MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court has ordered the officials of the Department of Health, Department of Education and Department of Interior and Local Government to comment on the 43- page petition for mandamus submitted by the Gabriela Partylist last December 2017.

The petition is in connection with the government’s controversial dengue immunization program.

The petitioners argued the said government agencies should shoulder the free medical services and treatment of the children who received Dengvaxia vaccine.

They said the government should also implement a 5-year monitoring of the condition of the children and to also hold liable those behind the purchase of the Dengvaxia vaccine and the implementation of the anti-dengue immunization program.

“The court directed the respondents to comment on the petition for mandamus within a period of ten (10) days from notice,” Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Theodore Te said. – UNTV News & Rescue
